A few days ago, Stories Rule Press launched something new.
Cameron Cooper’s Starter Library went live: three complete stories, absolutely free, for anyone who signs up.
And Cameron is just the first.
Eventually, each of the authors at Stories Rule Press will have a Starter Library of their own. Three stories chosen to give new readers a taste of what we write without asking them to spend a dime first.
Mine is coming soon.
Which meant I had to choose three stories.
That was harder than I expected.
It’s a strange thing, trying to pick three pieces of your own work and saying, Here. Start with these. This is me.
In the end, though, I think I’ve got a pretty good trio.
Assassinating Yesterday
This one has history, conspiracy, action, and the rather inconvenient problem of what happens when changing the past seems like an extremely good idea.
It seemed like an obvious choice for a Starter Library because it contains a lot of the things I love putting into thrillers: big questions, ordinary people caught in extraordinary circumstances, and consequences that refuse to stay neatly contained.
Crime and Gummibears
Yes, gummibears.
No, I’m not explaining the title here.
Where would be the fun in that?
This one shows another side of my writing—the side that likes crime stories with a little more humour and a slightly crooked grin.
And then there’s…
Feet of Clay
A different kind of thriller again, and another piece of the puzzle if you’re trying to figure out what a Mark Posey story looks like.
Which, come to think of it, may be exactly why these three work so well together.
They’re not three versions of the same story.
They’re three different doors into the kinds of stories I like to tell.
There’s suspense. Crime. Conspiracy. Humour. People getting themselves into situations that seemed considerably less dangerous a few chapters earlier.
And, because apparently I can’t help myself, people making decisions that have consequences.
Lots and lots of consequences.
The Mark Posey Starter Library will be completely free. Sign up, and the three stories will arrive over the course of several days rather than all landing in your inbox at once.
No credit card. No purchase required. Just three stories.
On me.
We’re putting the finishing touches on everything now, so keep an eye out.
The Mark Posey Starter Library is coming soon.
